end of the program, everybody who heard him was inspired. The parents flash their best smiles at their kids. After a long wait, their kids are about to complete college.
There are very few things which cold be equated with the jubilation that parents feel on seeing their kids complete their education. It makes them feel more complete as parents.
Self-discipline is vital for students. You need not necessarily go with the direction of the flow of water. It is vital to be able to resist all temptations which surround them. This is especially applicable to college students who are greatly influenced by peer pressure.
Self-discipline is vital to college students in 2 important aspects. The first is the self-discipline as associated with regular studying and with respect to the proper management of time. If and only if you satisfy both can you achieve great success.
To thoroughly understand and distinguish between both, read on.
For the majority of students, studying in college is boring. It even puts them under a lot of pressure. What they realize is that studying is not just about completing the given assignments but about understanding the concepts given in the book.
Studying is also not just about the amount of time you spend with your books. It is all about how well you retain what you have learnt and how well you can apply what you have learnt so far in real life.
Self-discipline is vital when you are prioritizing things. This is where you decide whether you want to spend some time with your books for the next day’s exam or with your friends.
Self-discipline on the second hand is one of the most important tools for proper management of time. This will keep you from doing unwanted things which could eventually lead you to cramming.
Time management refers to the proper division of your time for all your daily activities. Finish everything you can do today and do not postpone it for the next day.
Generally, the main reason for cramming is that you skipped studying too many times. Soon, this regular skipping will add up to the pressure you are already under.
Management of time is usually your personal problem and if you instinctively know what the right thing is, you have no need to worry. Just remember that your daily life is not actually a gamble and you would do well to allocate time to every activity.
Unlike other things, time lost never comes back.
Self-discipline and time management is especially vital for college going students. This is because this is the beginning of your career. This is the time when you need to get serious about life and how you are going to live it.
The only person who knows you completely is yourself. And nobody can track your goals for you.
Try to practice and perfect self – discipline as much as you humanly can. This to ensure the fact that when the going really gets tough, you still stand on your feet and can get through it.

The reason for teaching discipline to children is to help them learn how to respect others and to express their needs and feelings in a socially acceptable manner. Providing discipline to your children as they are growing up helps them to become responsible adults. For any discipline method to be effective, it has to be appropriate for the child’s stage of development. A child, no matter what their age, isn’t able to complete a task that they are not developmentally ready to perform. Children of all ages need to receive a lot of praise, hugs, and smiles as positive reinforcement for doing the right things. A hug or a thank you is much more meaningful than a piece of candy or a toy.

Physical punishment is not an effective way of teaching discipline to your children. Hitting a child only teaches them that it’s okay to hit others when they are upset or angry. The best way to teach discipline is to practice what you teach and lead by example. Your children learn more by your actions rather than your words. If your current discipline method doesn’t seem to be working, try something different. The methods that worked when your children were toddlers, probably will not work when they are in elementary school. It is essential to remember that your role as a parent is to help your children to develop into adulthood, and their short term behavior is not nearly as important as how they will behave when they are 20 or 30. Your discipline should focus on correcting inappropriate behaviors and teaching them the acceptable behaviors.

Children need to learn discipline because it is not something that comes to them naturally. Parents have a responsibility to teach discipline to their children. Teaching discipline to your children takes a lot of patience and time. As children start learning self-control and socially acceptable behaviors, disciplining will become easier. It is important that children be taught discipline. They do not come out of the womb with it. Parents need to teach it to them along life’s patch. Teaching of discipline takes time and repetition but it gets less frustrating as children learn behavior control on their own. The best part is that the teaching of discipline does not have to do damage to either the kids or the parents. Discipline is creating limits and boundaries and redirecting inappropriate behavior. However, discipline is also positive reinforcement, encouragement, guidance and enhancing self esteem. Discipline also encourages children to think for themselves.

Always remember that teaching discipline to your children will help them to grow up to be happy, responsible and well respected adults. No one has ever said that raising children is easy, but as children begin to learn self-control and acceptable behaviors, the discipline does become easier. It is important to invest in your children’s emotional well being when they are young and you will be proud of the wonderful adults you have raised.

Although I intend this article for children, I have to admit that many adults may still learn from my message. Teaching responsibility is not just for kids. It’s pressing to pass on this important trait while young—when the mind can still be molded and when the heart is still thirsty for change.

What are the six ways to teach responsibility to your children?

Create positive relationship

When you develop a good, nurturing relationship with your children, it’s easier to share ideas and to offer guidance. Before you begin any “serious” teaching, spend time with your kids. Have fun together, show humor, visit places, discuss ideas, and share laughter.

Talk about their frustrations, their friends, their dreams. Discuss what excites them, what pushes their buttons, what keeps them motivated. As your relationship grows, gradually expect responsibility.

Give assigned tasks

Teaching responsibility should be routine. Giving your kids assigned daily and weekly tasks at home may achieve what you’re aiming for. Chores such as washing dishes and making the bed and personal projects such as making crafts should be encouraged.

To prevent exhaustion, make sure that such tasks and projects are suitable for their ages and skills. Don’t feel guilty if you need to remind them. Almost all kids need some gentle push. But never nag. Instead, recognize and praise their accomplishments.

Provide opportunities to learn

Issues and stresses happen daily and each of them presents countless opportunities to learn accountability and conscientiousness. As parents, our usual tendency is to shield our children from these realities. But doing so may not necessarily be in their favor.

Let your children learn from their decisions and actions although the consequences may cause pain and discomfort. Allow them to see, to accept, and to correct their own mistakes. Of course, you may provide support and help during the whole process.

Ask questions

Some kids learn responsibility better when they are given mental tasks—problems to solve, decisions to make, options to choose. They thrive more when they have to use their brains. Instead of spoon-feeding, ask questions instead. Let them find the answers or solutions. Let them think and be creative.

For many people including children, questions are eye-openers. They are the windows through which they see the light and the filters through which they separate the good from the bad ideas. Let them develop positive attitude and behavior through questions that widen their curiosity and understanding.

Don’t give in

Learning responsibility needs time and effort, and some kids don’t want to exert the necessary hard work. They like to give you reasons they can’t do certain tasks. Don’t give in to tantrums, excuses, and unnecessary demands.

Some kids will test your patience and your resolve until you decide to surrender. Sure, it’s tough. But stand firm and just do what you think is right.

Model responsibility

It may be a tall order but if you want your children to learn responsibility, you have to display responsibility yourself. Your kids are constantly listening and watching. They know what’s going on and it’s not easy to hide. You can’t afford to be inconsistent if you want to teach reliability. You can’t teach your children responsible behavior when you grab the knife each time you get drunk.

Modeling responsibility may be the easiest way to teach but needs your commitment and consistency. If you haven’t done so, you can begin it now . . . while you still have time.

As parents, teaching children responsibility should be our lasting legacy.
